Job Responsibilities

Prepare the operation theatre before each list by arranging tables, lights, suction and surgical instruments in order.
Sterilize and pack surgical instruments, drapes and gowns using autoclave procedures that meet hospital standards.
Set up sterile trays and pass instruments to the surgeon accurately during open and minor surgical procedures.
Perform instrument, swab and needle counts before and after surgery and report any discrepancy to the surgeon.
Maintain strict aseptic technique and enforce scrub, gowning and gloving discipline within the theatre team.
Receive patients from the ward, position them on the operating table and assist with safe transfer after surgery.
Dispose of biomedical waste and sharps in the correct containers and clean the theatre between consecutive cases.
Keep a running record of consumables and theatre stock and inform the in-charge before supplies run out.
