About Us at Solidarités International
For over 40 years, Solidarités International (SI) has been a beacon of hope for communities facing the devastating impacts of armed conflicts and natural disasters. As an international humanitarian aid organization, we are committed to addressing the most pressing needs of vulnerable populations by ensuring access to essentials like food, clean water, and shelter. Our work goes beyond immediate relief—we’re particularly dedicated to tackling the global crisis of waterborne diseases, which remain a leading cause of death worldwide. Through our expertise in providing safe drinking water, improving sanitation, and promoting hygiene, we aim to save lives and restore dignity. Additionally, we focus on food security and livelihoods, helping communities rebuild and sustain themselves in the face of adversity. With a presence in 26 countries, our 3,200-strong team—made up of expatriates, national staff, headquarters personnel, and a handful of volunteers—works with professionalism and cultural sensitivity to deliver meaningful support where it’s needed most.
About Our Mission in Syria
Since 2013, Solidarités International has been actively working in Syria, operating across Hassake, Raqqa, Aleppo, and Idlib governorates with a diverse range of programs tailored to the unique challenges of each region. Our mission employs 350 staff members and has cultivated strong partnerships with both international and local NGOs to maximize our impact. Whether responding to emergencies or supporting long-term recovery, we’re committed to making a lasting difference in the lives of those we serve.
In Northeast Syria (NES), particularly in Hassake and Raqqa, SI has established itself as a leader in the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) sector. We address a spectrum of needs, from urgent emergency responses to supporting communities in protracted crises and aiding in recovery efforts. Our WASH programs ensure that families have access to clean water and proper sanitation, reducing the risk of disease and improving overall well-being. Beyond WASH, we’ve integrated a robust Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) component into our strategy. This includes initiatives like rehabilitating local markets, supporting small businesses, and promoting agricultural development, all of which help communities regain economic stability and self-sufficiency.
In Northwest Syria (NWS), our operations focus on Idlib and Northern Aleppo, where we run extensive WASH programs tailored to the needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) living in camps. These programs are crucial for providing safe water and sanitation facilities in some of the most challenging environments. We also prioritize rehabilitation efforts, especially following the devastating earthquake that struck the region, helping to rebuild infrastructure and restore access to basic services. Additionally, SI remains agile in responding to new emergencies, such as regular population displacements, natural disasters, and disease outbreaks, ensuring that we’re there when communities need us most.
